Derekah Dances to the Beat of her own Drum...
"I'm running late but there's a good reason." the text message read and I had to laugh to myself because she's so sweet, you can't get flustered. She pulled her car into a parking spot just a couple minutes later. Rocking metallic blue flares, sequin top, white platform boots and bejeweled sunnies I had to agree that she definitely had a unique plan for her session that afternoon and I was here for it all. Derekah has an infectious personality. I'm pretty sure she could have a conversation with anybody, anywhere about anything. Every pose, she gave nothing but confidence and poise. She has an array of eclectic interests and hobbies. I've never had any senior tell me that they wanted to go into cyber security. Just one. Derekah. "I do Epic remember." Derekah reminded me when I began asking about her high school experience. "It's at my pace. I'm just ready for college!" She grinned. I agreed with her that online school may have prepared her for a smoother transition into college courses.
"I love babysitting and being outside and listening to music and being with my family and trying new things and watching softball." She was listing off the things that made her happy as a senior. "I'll miss mock trial for sure."
Meeting young ladies like Derekah reminds me of all the young ladies out there who are sure of themselves. They've got dreams and nothing will shake them. I can't wait to hear where she's going next. I can't wait to see what she wants to do for our full senior session, she's already sending outfit inspo and every item is stellar. "I mean I won't be heartbroken or anything, I'm too excited about my future." Yeah, lady I bet you really are and I'm cheering you on!
